The Maple Hill Hop 46

Maple Hill Hop

Welcome to
The Maple Hill Hop
This is a hop for folks who love the outdoors.
Feel free to post about anything that's going on
OUTSIDE
in your neck of the woods.
(Please share only outdoor posts.)

We are hoping the heat of summer will soon be waning.
Fall planting is set to commence this week.
The square-foot bed is looking mighty sad right now.
Hopefully, soon it will be filled with seedlings.
We're planning on sowing beets, lettuce, snap peas,
green beans, leek, garlic and eggplant.

I decided to start some pineapple plants in the back bed.
Several  months ago, I gave away the ones I had
that had provided us with luscious fruit.
This is so easy to grow, I thought it should make a comeback.
Even though we are selling our home,
it will be a gift to the new owners.
You can see the technique for planting pineapple here.

 The bulbine is happily blooming.
This Florida-friendly plant asks for very little,
but has a big impact on the garden.

The cactus zinnias have become a new favorite.
They come in colors from this bright orange,
to a brilliant yellow to a vibrant magenta.
Love the ruffly petals.

I hope you are enjoying your time in the great outdoors.
What's happening where you are?
HOP ON!

  1. Daisy, gardening in Florida is so out of sync to gardening here in Nebraska. I'm not sure I'd get the hang of gardening there. The only thing I've harvested here is a few tomatoes and peppers and a couple eggplants. The potatoes, onions, and cabbage are yet to come. All of the corn was a total loss due to weather and critters. The fence building is creeping along incredibly slow this year and I've only installed three panels with eight more to go. The weather has just not been very compatible with digging post holes and fence building. Wet muddy ground is not the time to be digging in the dirt.

Have a great house selling day.

    1. It does take some getting used to, gardening here. But the advantage is that the growing season is a bit longer than most areas. Sounds like you still have a lot of goodies to look forward to!

  2. Always have loved the cactus flowered zins. I even had some that were mixed color on the same blossum. Easy, colorful, drought tolerant. Some folks would look down their noses at them, but I wouldn't want to know such people!

    Have a wonderful day, Daisy!

    2. Daisy, I agree. Sue's flower garden is awesome and magazine copy worthy. I had to, like you, sit and just soak in the beauty for a few minutes.
